Acrylic paint, pastels and many layers had a great time playing along to create this one. A large, bold and luxurious painting of all beautiful red tones and warm yellows. The title is a line from a song called Stoned Soul Picnic. I was listening to an album by Brandi Carlyle and Elton John and the song The Rose of Laura Nyro caught my ear. It is a six minute ballad and I was captivated. Who is Laura Nyro? Turns out, Elton John idolized her and she was a song-writer and singer. She’s in the Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she’s written songs that were recorded by Barbra Streisand, The 5th Dimension and more. One of her popular songs, Stoned Soul Picnic, has a catchy line that I latched onto about Red Yellow Honey, Sassafrass and Moonshine. I found a jazzy guitar version by Ken Navarro, that I listened to on repeat while finishing this bold abstract. It’s full of depth and layers and discovery.
